Mind Care Diagnosis ; HOPE

Some of the hardest battles individuals face are the ones no one else can see. Hello, My name is Aby, and I am proud to announce my new mental health program, Mind Care ; Diagnosis HOPE!

Every day, many people struggle in silence. No hope, no one to turn to, and no action. This article is the beginning of a series, committed to expanding knowledge of mental health, and all areas in which problems may arise. This program will focus on different aspects of emotional health each month, and provide information, possible solutions, and awareness, reinforcing other resources and giving deeper understanding to the subject.

This month’s focus will be understanding mental health in teenagers. With this topic, the question arises. What exactly IS mental health? According to the World Health Organization, “Mental Health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community.” Mental health is extremely vital to a complete and functional body, and is the very foundation of all we say, think, and do. A healthy mind allows individuals to perform daily tasks without difficult opposition, giving confidence and courage to people.

Although the term mental health encompasses its entirety, it may differ vastly from person to person, and may fluctuate throughout life. It is different for both me and you! It is important to recognize the ups and downs, do not solely make up your mental health, but rather positive actions and interactions promoting wellness, to ensure safety of yourself and others.

The Center Of Disease Control, gives facts that help display possible results of unhealthy minds. “4 in 10 (40%) students had persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. 2 in 10 (20%) students seriously considered attempting suicide and nearly 1 in 10 (9%) attempted suicide.”

Now… How can we combat these devastating facts? It is important to understand that one of the best ways to counteract struggles is simply through kindness. The American Psychiatric Association provides information that may surprise you. “Research has also found that kindness can increase happiness and self-esteem, while decreasing stress and emotional reactivity.” Though kindness may not erase the problem entirely, it is a definite start on what may be a road of change and healing. It goes on to say, “Everyday simple acts of kindness can contribute to boosting your mood, reducing stress, and possibly alleviating symptoms of depression or anxiety. In addition, what might seem like a small kind gesture could have a greater impact than you might think.”

With a better understanding of the meaning of mental health, and some simple ways to counter the results of mental illness, individuals will be better able to bring awareness to the matter, and impact their communities for the better. Stay positive and have HOPE.
