August 2026 – Ways To Manage School Stress

School is starting! But all that excitement is accompanied by tremendous amounts of stress. How can we limit that stress, to make this school year effective for learning? In this very informative article, you will learn a few ways to eliminate stress from school! To begin, arguably the most important way to limit and reduce stress is to get good sleep! The American Psychological Association explains, “Sleep is a necessary human function — it allows our brains to recharge and our bodies to rest. When we do not sleep long or well enough, our bodies do not get the full benefits of sleep, such as muscle repair and memory consolidation” (“Stress and sleep”). It is necessary to get enough sleep for both our physical and mental health. When we do not receive adequate sleep, we may experience mood changes, tiredness, and other health problems.

We can also fix these stressful times by simply doing things we love, eating proper foods, and allowing ourselves to rest and reset! By taking 20 minutes a day to rest, enjoy ourselves, and eat healthy, our minds and bodies will feel refreshed and satisfied.

How can we apply this to our lives?

August Challenge

This month, we are going to do the 7-Day Less Stress Challenge! With each day there will be a new challenge to help eliminate stress while attending school.

  • Day One – Brain Dump: Write down everything that stresses you out, then choose one thing you can control.
  • Day Two – One thing: Pick one task you’ve been putting off and work on it for 15 minutes.
  • Day Three – Unplug: Take 30 minutes away from your phone/social media before bed.
  • Day Four – Move: Take a walk, stretch, dance, or do another activity you enjoy.
  • Day Five – Reach Out: Text or talk to someone who makes you feel supported.
  • Day Six – Do something fun: Spend at least 20 minutes doing something just because you enjoy it.
  • Day Seven – Reset: Spend 10 minutes getting your backpack, room, calendar, or schoolwork organized for the week.

One more thing to focus on is the “3 for Me” rule!

Once a day, do 1 thing for school, 1 thing for your mind, and 1 thing for YOU that makes you happy!

These steps and habits will help eliminate stress from school, and help you live a happy life!
